At the Future of Honduran Youth (FOHY) Foundation, our mission is captured in four simple words: Faith in Action. Futures in Focus. Often, "Faith in Action" looks like a delivery truck pulling up to a modest home with a life-changing surprise inside. Today, we are proud to introduce you to Emelyn—a determined student, a dedicated mother, and a face of our Today’s Tomorrow program.
The Invisible Barriers to Education
We often talk about the cost of tuition, but for many students in Honduras, the "invisible" barriers are just as daunting. For months, Emelyn had been pursuing her degree at the Technological University of Honduras (UTH) under nearly impossible conditions.
She was working on a laptop where the camera and speakers were completely broken. When it came time for exams or interactive lectures, Emelyn had to balance her phone in one hand to speak and listen while trying to type on a failing keyboard with the other. She didn't ask for pity; she asked for an opportunity.
A "Weapon" for Success
In a collaborative effort between FOHY, UTH, and the Honduras-Korea, we were able to provide Emily with the technology she needed to thrive.
This milestone was made possible by the dedicated work of Manuel, who spearheaded the planning and personally handled the delivery of the laptop to Emelyn’s home. This wasn’t just a gift—it was a "weapon of war" for her education.
"This computer is a tool so that you can turn this scholarship into a professional degree. Honduras doesn't need more keyboard critics; it needs more young people like Emelyn who take advantage of these opportunities."
